Some tips for Broadcasting
POSTURE
-feet flat on the floor
-sit up comfortably on your ‘sitting bones’, shoulders relaxed (roll them)
-head up normally
-relax jaw (smile)
-use conversational hand gestures
-hold paper at eye level
-Mic should be 15-25 cm away from you. Bring mic to you, not your body to the mic
WARM UP
-take 3 deep breaths through mouth before broadcasting
-say ahh gently then louder, then hum
-read script through beforehand (mark if helpful)
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
-Rewrite scripts to ensure simple words, shorter sentences (but mix of lengths), wide margins and paragraphs, double-spaced, large font
-Breathe with abdomen
-Intonation: vary pitch (range of voice tone à no forcing!), pause, pace and punch (go easy on punch!) to mark understanding
-Focus on message and listener (on other side of the desk), not on yourself. What is the story about?
-Enjoy; Talk; Don’t read
